When I was a little kid, one of my favorite friends was the 75 year-old lady down the street. She built dollshouses - not the kind you play with, but the elaborate 10-room elegant kind. She laid carpet, placed every roof shingle, and used old toothpaste tube covers for miniature trash cans. She even wired the lamps for the house, hiding the wires behind the wallpaper. It was wonderful. She let me hang out in her shop and taught me how to saw and paint tiny things. I still have my own one-room dollhouse that I made with her.

There is so much we can learn from an older and wiser generation. Take time to listen to their stories. They all have stories, just not always a listening ear. Take time to learn something from them - you may not agree but never forget the years and experiences they have on you. Take time to appreciate them. They are beautiful. They are Lords and Ladies of our families and communities.

Today we take time to appreciate Lady Susie.
