The year was 2008. Our neighbor and preschool kid friends asked if I could take a picture for their business. They were owners of an architect business and wanted to use a photo of their children playing with drafting tools to put on their company’s Christmas cards. I set up a white backdrop in their backyard. They set the scene with the little Christmas tree and drafting “toys”. Enter 3 adorable kids wearing S-D-A letters to play and pose. A new tradition was born between SDA and JTM and is still going strong!
I have taken photos of the SDA kids for Struthers Dias Architects almost every year since then. (We’ve also had a couple of staff headshot sessions.) It has been so much fun to watch the kids grow this way and the clients who receive the cards feel the same! I hear some of them have even commented that they look forward to getting those cards in the mail to see how much the kids have grown.
Our respective business have grown and improved as well. For the 2013 photo I was asked if we could incorporate their favorite office chairs in to the picture. The little tree is a constant - part of the tradition. I brainstormed this idea and together we made it happen. Theresa Dias (the “D” of SDA) made the images of the tree and lights for print and for the laptop. They bought the decorations and we set the stage the day before in their San Leandro office so the kids wouldn’t have to wait so long. I think it’s our best yet and I look forward to many more!
I am so very thankful to SDA for allowing me to be a part of their business and growth and for giving me the opportunity to grow as well by hiring me in my early years of professional photography.
